LTBI Research & Recommendations
People with latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) are infected with
M. tuberculosis, but do not have active TB disease. People with LTBI do not have signs and symptoms of TB disease and they cannot spread M. tuberculosis to others. About 5-10% of infected people will develop TB disease over their lifetimes if not treated for LTBI.
MDR-TB Treatment Guidance
Multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) is caused by an organism that is resistant to at least isoniazid and rifampin, the two most potent TB drugs. People with MDR-TB are left with less treatment options than those with drug-susceptible TB, and there is a rising need for more evidence-based treatments.
Non-Stigmatizing TB Language
As TB control programs move toward more patient centered care, the use of non-stigmatizing language in clinical care is increasingly important. Stakeholders can be informed of and help remove human rights and gender-related barriers to TB prevention, diagnosis and treatment services through alternative language.
