Tuberculosis in NYC

Tuberculosis (TB) remains the leading infectious disease killer worldwide. In 2022, 10.6 million people fell ill with TB disease and 1.3 million died of TB-related deaths.

In New York City (NYC), despite numerous clinical and public health interventions over the last two decades, TB incidence rates have began to increase. In 2023, there were 684 confirmed cases of TB disease, corresponding to an incidence of 7.8 TB cases per 100,000 population, which is over twice the national TB case rate (2.9 per 100,000). TB affects individuals across NYC of all age groups, race/ethnicities, and income levels; however, some populations remain disproportionately affected by TB.
