June 2020 Coalition Meeting 

Meeting Highlights â€‹â€‹

  • 20 partners attended our first virtual Coalition meeting on June 26, 2020.

​

  • Stephanie Michel, a CDC Public Health Associate, presented on and facilitated a conversation on challenges with TB care due to COVID-19. 

​

  • Our discussion centered around the reasons for the decrease in TB case reporting in NYC during the peak of the pandemic, during the months of March to May of 2020 compared to the same time in 2019. Specifically, 

    • a 48% decrease* in TB case reports in March 2020 compared to March 2019;

    • an 85% decrease* in April 2020 compared to April 2019; and

    • a 70% decrease* in May 2020 compared to May 2019.

    • * percentage decrease based on preliminary and unpublished data

  • A summary of responses to questions asked on TB care challenges providers and patients face(d) during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as potential interventions for them, can be found HERE.

  • This meeting was originally scheduled for June 19, 2020, but was postponed in honor of Juneteenth. The official statement can be found HERE

The Coalition for a TB-Free NYC aims to prevent and eliminate TB in NYC through community engagement, public-private partnership, and innovation & research.
The Coalition unites various stakeholders across traditional and non-traditional industries, disciplines, and care levels to develop, implement, and evaluate a strategic plan to eliminate TB in NYC. The Coalition’s work will be guided by a human rights-, social justice- and patient-centered approach.
